Character's Backstory:
Hazel was a young faerie girl of about 17. On the worst night of her life, Hazel found herself descending a dank and musty staircase behind a frail old woman on her way to deliver a baby. Hazel had been on the run for months, she feared for the life of her child, dreading the day when she’d be discovered for exactly what she was.
Hazel gave birth to a 5lb baby girl and she named her Elena, meaning light. However, she only held her child once before it was time to be on the run again. While the old woman went to fetch some water, Hazel said goodbye to her child, hoping against hope that she would grow up to escape the fate of her kind. She knew her daughter could pass for a typical elf/human hybrid. And as long as she didn’t draw too much attention to herself, she should survive. Before departing, Hazel used her fire to brand a special symbol onto her child. A deed that would certainly come to aide her later in life.
With one last farewell, Hazel slipped out the back window of the old woman’s house, never to see her child again.
Elena spent her first years living with the old midwife, following her wherever she went. Well, when she wasn’t going on adventures of her own of course. At the ripe old age of 7, Elena’s life ran into tragedy once again. She was playing in the streets of the village with her friends when she heard the gunshots. Even at her age, she knew what those shots meant: the village was being raided by the pirates.
By the time the young group made it back to Elena’s house (which was the closest), the streets were already running with blood. The sound of cruel laughter, screams, and the breaking of glass as objects were stolen from homes and businesses was all Elena heard. Until she saw the body of the midwife laying limp in the doorway of the house she grew up in. When she looked away from the horrific sight to see a rather tall and lanky dark haired young man standing before her, gun holstered at his hip. Elena quickly looked around for her friends to see if they saw him too when she noticed that they had all fled in fear.
However, Elena stood her ground. Not that she wasn’t afraid. Believe me, she was. But this was her home. And that woman in the doorway was a mother to her. So Elena did what any sensible girl at the age of 7 would do and she spit at the feet of the tall man.
Instead of feeling the pain she expected to feel after such an act, Elena felt nothing. She looked up to find the young man not scowling, but smiling at her. This of course confused Elena and she took the smallest of steps back. Meanwhile, the man’s focus had drifted past her and onto something, or someone, behind her. The young man nodded and the last thing Elena felt was a soft, funny smelling rag pressed up against her face before her world went black.
After waking up, Elena was tossed into the pirate life. The young man, Jack, had chosen to bring her back to base because of her unusual fire. She was young, which meant she could be trained to do the bidding of her “fellow” pirates.
And so Elena was raised as a pirate. Or more accurately, an assassin among the criminal pirates. She could kill a man before she turned 9. And she only got better at it from there. Elena had many adventures throughout her years as an assassin for the pirates. Many of which making her quite famous. Though no one knew her face, they knew her. And now, at the young age of 18, she was a sort of legend. The angel of death, they called her. What a fitting name...
Note on Magic: You can cast half the number of points in magic you have as different magics, and that’s how many times you can cast per day; though if it's odd you round down. So if you have a magic score of 7 you can cast 3 different types. Do NOT TRY to bypass this. As an example, you can't count "elemental magic" as one slot but then use it to cast fire and water and earth. You can do things for flavor if you have the right magics though. For instance. Let's say you have water magic and healing magic. You can choose for the healing magic to look like water as it heals, but you can't normally heal with water magic.
